Gone low carb levels still too high

I have recently switched to low carb and I can see benefits already as BG spikes are generally much lower. But I am puzzled that fasting BG levels are still higher than I would like. I am seeing early morning fasting running at around 8.5, I take breakfast and usually exercise, then 2 hrs later I am usually sitting around 7.5. I do not measure at lunch as I eat zero carbs then, salad or eggs and bacon or steak. By dinner in the evening I am sitting just below 7 and two hours later I am up at 9 to 9.5. This is better than previously as I would often be up at 10.5 after breakfast and over 12 after dinner.

I am only two weeks in, am I being impatient in wanting the underlying fasting numbers to be lower. Does it take longer for the levels to drop? I was hoping I would be seeing lower than I am seeing given the big changes I have made! Do I just need to hang in there and it will come good in then end?

It’s great you’re seeing changes. But yes you may also be being impatient. The morning reading is usually the last to come into line because of dawn phenomenon. It can take months (or even years) for this to get to ideal numbers. But so long as you are seeing progress and the rest of the day is also improving just keep going.

The only other things are it also depends how low you’ve gone v. how low you need to go and if you really are as low as you think you are. There’s no magic number and it varies for us all. It’s not at all uncommon for there to be some sneaky carbs left in that people aren’t aware of too.

Yes you are being a bit impatient... well you did ask!

Numbers are going in the right direction which is great and fasting is usually the one that takes the longest to "normalise".
Just carry on as you are and they will improve.. took my FBG's about 6 months of very low carb and some fasting to get down to regular levels.
