Gonna stop metformin.

I’m going to stop the metformin now (been on it just less that 2 weeks). Do I need to tell my doctor ?
I discussed it with my GP to stop Metformin after two years when my hba1c levels were down and stable in the mid 30 level. I was taking 1 x 500 mg twice a day, and he suggested cutting back to one for six months to how it went,. After six months I stopped the other one, and have been controlling my T2 just with diet.

My hba1c has gone up abit, but that i put down to some of the stuff I have had to take for CT scans,
Endoscopy and Colonoscopy clean outs. It has started to back to a the last week or so.

So talk to your GP about it, it's best to keep them in the loop.

Hi I stopped mine after two weeks I could not cope my gp said I could do diet and exercise and I bought Apple cider vinegar tablets from Holland and Barrett they are really good they help lower your blood and hbc1a google it x

  • Metformin may also be called by the brand names Bolamyn, Diagemet, Glucient, Glucophage and Metabet. Liquid metformin is called by the brand name Riomet. https://www.nhs.uk/medicines/metformin/

Ooo is this true? I have never heard this before!

I have Parkinson's Disease, and the Metformin tablets became too big to swallow.
Changed to liquid form, but the constant nausea and diarrohea made ne stop taking it.
I eventually got an appointment with the practice nurse, who put me on Sitagliptin.
I reported back to her that my blood sugar levels hadn't changed, still about 12 mmol in the morning, fasting, and about 20 mmol at bedtime, at least 4 hours after eating.
I have an appointment in September with her. I think I'll ask for a referral to the Diabetic Clinic.
Are these levels in any way dangerous? Been this level for 8 weeks or more.

Apple cider vinegar is believed to have some similar affects to alcohol in slowing sugar digestion and hence flattening spikes.
However there is a need to drink enough liquid to ensure a tablet is swallowed, as it can cause throat burns. Similarly if using the liquid, it must be diluted enough to avoid injury. Essentially you are drinking an acid solution after all, just one with an apple-ish flavour.

Tried it, didn't like it.
