A passing lady came into work yesterday l was doing reception, she asked for a mug of water, always happy to help folks l went to get one as l turned she said "l think l am having a hypo" l asked if she wanted a glucotab l carry she said ohh yes please.
As l headed out the practice manager said you shouldn't give out drugs...l just said l will explain later grabbed said items and handed them over, she asked if we had a plastic mug she could take with her of water, l sorted that and confirmed she was a t1 (yes)
Once sorted and she was happy on her way l passed on info that if someone comes in and requests water and thinks they are having a hypo get them what they want and offer sugar/sweets something to get bg back up, see if they need anything else or you going to have a person on the floor and ambulance on call.
Practice manager happy now to supply what's needed if it happens again, it is theses stupid bloody h & s stories and rules that was making her nervous she is a lovely person wasn't being bolshy just nervous.
