Thanks Vicky, I think he would consider it but might have difficulty because he has Aspergers and gets very anxious when he has to change his routine.Hugs galore Barbara! Would your brother consider low carb?
Stick with what works for you.I increased my Insulin by 2 units over a week ago (now on 46 units a day) and there has been only a very slight improvement on blood sugars. My fear is putting on additional weight, when I have to shed another stone and get down to 12 stone - so the Professionals keep telling me. I have tried fasting from when I get up until 1.30 - 2pm everyday for over a week now. My partner says I need to eat, as I am moody, irritating and snappy at the slightest thing.
So today have decreased my Insulin to 44 units a day. But, I really think it was the switch from 'bog' Standard Metformin to the SR version of Metformin almost a month ago that is responsible for my erratic blood sugars. My weight has stayed the same for the past 9 weeks at exactly 13 stone.
What a difficult additional pressure when a diet change is encouraged. A long slow process but changing one thing like reheated potato rather than fresh potato or flour substitutes. Might be all HE needs, if prediabetic? Are you his carer? Thanks Vicky, I think he would consider it but might have difficulty because he has Aspergers and gets very anxious when he has to change his routine.
I looked into it a few yrs back and saw the surgeon, he said I would better off with the bypass, I went home and forgot about it, as I really wanted to try and lose the weight myself (I had no diagnosis of any type of metabolic problems then apart from hypothyroid) so I left it a few years, now I still havnt lost any weight in that time and am starting to think about it again, as I got a hb test back at 41 which is just off pre-diabetes) Its a hard desicion for me as I am borderline, not saying it is not a hard choice for anyone though. And my weight is borderline too with a BMI of 33.4 ish. So I am still at the decision stage. Will do kittylitter.
Specialist signing me up on my next appointment in the new year.
Maybe we can be weight loss buddies? How long have you been given to think about it?
You have an excellent chance to get rid of your diabetes with this op. Higher success with prediabetes cases. Have a read up. I'm in the slim chance of getting rid of diabetes but maybe I'll be able to get rid of insulin use!I looked into it a few yrs back and saw the surgeon, he said I would better off with the bypass, I went home and forgot about it, as I really wanted to try and lose the weight myself (I had no diagnosis of any type of metabolic problems then apart from hypothyroid) so I left it a few years, now I still havnt lost any weight in that time and am starting to think about it again, as I got a hb test back at 41 which is just off pre-diabetes) Its a hard desicion for me as I am borderline, not saying it is not a hard choice for anyone though. I'll have to have a heart to heart with him today, he lives with mum as her carer even though he needs care himself! We're lucky, we have a very good relationship (unlike when we were teenagers!) and he is comforted by the fact that I've been through it before him. I try and spend a lot of time with him so he doesn't feel too isolated but it's been difficult with everything our older brother has been through, I haven't had the free time to just pop up to theirs and have a chat. Luckily he has inherited our dad's independent streak and is the smartest member of the family so once I give him the basic info he needs he will devise his own solution and make it work for him. What a difficult additional pressure when a diet change is encouraged. I wish more support for families who have hereditary diabetes. Loads of families now. I wish I wasn't the only member in my family. I stand alone.
My mum came as a chaperone for me yesterday. She still doesn't get, its related to my diabetes (inflammation). Well pelvic problem and struggling to walk carnt be helping my heart. She'll never understand.
Thank you for the info, I think they say that the sooner you are diagnosed, the better chance of reversing it - Grrr I go sugar free for a week and I put on a pound, I know its only a pound, but so unfair - hopefully your surgery will do wonders for you, it seems like the last chance for you to improve things - really hope it sorts out your stuff - I shall be watching you lolYou have an excellent chance to get rid of your diabetes with this op. Extra hugs to you hun. Your gp should be interested more. Surely they can see him suffering. They will help him more at pain clinic, then everyone can see what the remaining problems are. Pain disguises a lot of things, I feel.Morning @13lizanne not a nice day here either. Well what can I say , went up to check on Ron last night to find him still having tremors rolling from one side to another in pain . The meds don't seem to be working yet nobody is listening to me . Can't see next weeks appointment being of much use either . Feeling frustrated think that's why I've not been posting as much . Oh well have a good day everyone. Hug to those feeling under the weather.x
