Good news, but one query

Hi Folks
Well, I went to Diabetic clinic today, the first time since starting to Low Carb in October.
The good news is that my hb1ac is down from 8.8 to 6.3,
my liver function tests have improved dramatically, my blood pressure is down and I've lost 1stone 7lbs in weight. I've also halfed my medication. Fantastic!!!

The only fly in the ointment is that my cholesterol has gone up from 5.5 to 5.8. I can't take Statins as they give joint ache, but they have given me some other tablets called Ezetimibe 10mgs.

I thought that the low protein, high fat diet did not effect cholesterol. In fact I thought I'd heard that for some people cholesterol lowered. Has anybody had the same experience? All comments welcome

The question in some respects hinges on whether cholesterol is really a bad thing.

We know that 'statistically' people with high cholesterol are more likely to develop heart disease, however, there are different reasons for why cholesterol can rise -including diet, genetics and causes of inflammation -and there will be people with slightly higher cholesterol who may be perfectly healthy whilst others may not be.

I'm personally not convinced that statins do anything beneficial for us but whilst I've read on the subject I'm certainly no expert on it.

Out of interest, do you have the figures on how much LDL you have compared with how much HDL?
