Got my glucose tolerance tests last night!

Before the yucky lucozade = 7.6

2 hours later = 12.6

Nurse said on the phone and i quote "you are diabetic - come and see us on Monday!!"

What should I expect on Monday, how will she work out whether I'm type 1 or 2 (or knowing me a previously unknown type all together), how will she know what I need?

I've been up most the night thinking about it

Karen

Hi there
i have not had my glucose tolerence test yet! but my doctor suspects i have type 2! if you were type 1 i am sure they would not be waiting until monday! they would already have you on some on pills or insulin already!
I know it is alright me saying don't panic, trust me i am scared stiff, my mum is type 1 and she said that as soon as she got her results she was put straight onto medication!
Hopefully she will tell you that you need a blood testing monitor and where you go from here! The people on here have great advice and will help you in everyway that they can!

Hi Karen,a confusing time for you.Going by your previous posts you are probably type 2 .How are you feeling generally?
I hope that you have a good chat with the nurse.Have a look round the forum for hints on this and take a note of any questions you want to ask the nurse while you are there.Sometimes things just fly out of your head when you are faced with something like this!!Also make a note of what she tells you as well so that you can go over it once you are home again.

Hi Karen.
Good advice from Sandy and Sue.
It is a very apprehensive time for you and we can all empathise. It does get better as you get more educated about your condition. This forum is a wonderful place to ask all the questions you need answers for. Try not to worry too much as this will send your blood sugars up. Easier said than done I know. It takes time to assimilate all the information and it is trial and error for a while. Once you get control you will feel so much better and the world will be your oyster again.

Some suggestions for questions you need to ask,
1. What was my reading which enabled you to make a diagnosis?
2. Am I going to be prescribed medication?
3. What are you recommending for a suitable diet?
4. I would like a monitor and test strips to enable me to see how different foods affect me so that
I can gain control. If not, why not?
5. Are you referring me to a dietitian, podiatrist. opthalmist?
6. How long before you want to see me again?

Will be thinking of you and please come back and tell us how things went.

Hope this helps,
Catherine.

Thanks Sandy Sue & Catherine

I'm sort of confused but it'll all be ok.

Sue, you asked how I feel generally - well absolutely washed out, if I'm not peeing I'm drinking water like its going out of fashion. My mouth's constantly dry and I feel like crying all the time

I'll try and remember all the questions you suggested but I'm sure to forget most of them, I'm booked for an hour with the nurse

Thanks

Karen

Hi again,
Write the questions down so that you can refer to them. No shame in that.
Good luck,
Regards, Catherine
