i saw my gp this morning, and he,s seriously thinking about putting me on insulin
he wants me to think about it and to dicuss it with the diabetic nurse next week
i also received my excemption card this morning, so thats free prescriptions for 5 years

Glad to hear they are finally considering insulin for you, normally I wouldn't be pleased to hear someone was going onto it but I think you do need it at the moment. From what I have read you have been trying really hard, but not getting the results you should.

As for the exemption card, I am surprised you don't have one already, the first time the doctor decided I needed Metformin I was given the form to fill in and the pharmacist was willing to let me have the first prescription of Metformin with just the form. With the Metformin, Statins, Inhalers etc. it has made a big difference when I collect my prescription. Must check when it runs out, I have had it a few years.

Good luck with the nurse next week.

Glad things are bring sorted out for you ....
You need some answers to allow yourself to move on ....
That card is very useful ....
Thank you for sharing with us ...

If you have kept receipts for the prescriptions you have had since diagnosis, Ally, I understand you can reclaim those fees. I hope someone will confirm that, as I have no personal experience.

It's a shame that insulin looks on the cards, but it doesn't seem like things are improving to single figures at least, quickly enough without it. With continued effort, it may not need to be a life-long situation, unless of course you turn out to be a late onset T1.

I know I seem completely anti-medication of almost any sort, but in your shoes, I'd be inclined to give it a go. Once you feel a bit better (your high bloods won't be helping with energy levels or mood), you can always think again.

Did the doctor give you a monitor and prescriptions for strips yet Ally? Obviously, if you did go onto insulin you would definitely get one.

I'm so pleased you didn't wait another week before getting support Ally. It's just been dragging on too long, and must have been dragging you down.

How do you feel about it all?
