So sorry to hear about your visit to the gp .
I can't comment as I am a type one so on different medication .

Was just replying to wish you luck at the hospital appointment and hopefully you will get the help and advise you need .

Take care

:):):)

The fact that he has never had to deal with this situation before is no excuse for the way you were treated.
His ignorance and abruptness needs reporting to the practice manager.

If he had said, "I really do not know what the possible risks of your medication are so will refer you"would have had a better outcome for you.
I am glad you are being referred as his lack of knowledge could put your future pregnancy in jeopardy

(((hugs))))

Thanks guys for the support it has really upset me at what should be an exciting time planning a pregnancy I will hopefully get the support at the hospital x

Hi Ajack. I'm type 1 and now 33 weeks pregnant. A while back I asked my dsn who deals with pregnancy at the busiest maternity unit in Europe (don't think I'm allowed to name hospitals here) if they see many birth defects as a result of diabetes. Her reply was that the biggest number of defects weren't in type 1s but in type 2 mothers who got pregnant whilst still taking their regular medication.

Have you read the NICE guidelines on diabetes and pregnancy, might be worth a read?

Oh, and so sorry about your doctor, maybe you should send him a copy too!

Thanks Kt78 I will have a look at that I was always sure that metformin can cause defects so I stood my ground about that I wish you well with your pregnancy x
