GPs and monitoring.

It's not that they are allowed not to prescribe them for T2s but that they are advised by the NICE guidelines not to prescribe them for T2s who are unlikely to suffer from hypos if they are not insulin dependent this is why most of us buy are own.

I will Tag @daisy1 who will provide you with a welcome pack with lots of useful info

It is also the case that if the GP has no experience of patients improving due to intelegent use of strips (possibly due to filtering contact with non-insulin T2 through overworked practice nurses) then he will blindly apply geneal rules, rather than giving the patient the "benefit of the doubt".

It's the cost. If they only cost pennies I'm sure they'd all be telling us to test all the time.

There are a number insisted that all play into this. The SMBG model that is used for T2s is not appropriate and is based on the T1 model. As a result, in the trials that have been done, it has made little difference.

If trials were done using SMBG as many on here use it, the benefits would be considerably more obvious.
