Re: Granery bread

I buy the Warburton's seeded (Five Seeds) batch loaf from Tesco's (85p) and found it very good.

Re: Granery bread

Hi

Burgen soya and linseed is lovely.

There is a low carb bread called 'Livlife' which I have only found in Waitrose. It's about 5g of carb per slice although the slices are small.

If you are interested in lower carbohydrate choices I can thoroughly recommend the book
'Carbs And Cals' by Chris Cheyette and Yello Balolia. It has photographs of portion sizes, which I thought sounded a bit like a novelty but is actually eye-opening. It then also gives, calories, carbohydrate, protein, fat, saturated fat and fibre in grams per portion.
I found it really helpful

Hi!

The LivLife seriously seeded bread is 3.8gs of carbs per slice and I can have 2 slices of that topped with eggs or cheese and still be under 10 grams of carbs for the total meal so it's a winner and well worth getting for quickness..I maybe eat it once or twice a week and keep it frozen and grab a slice or two when required.

Does the LivLife bread taste as normal bread?

I find it has a similar feel to Burgen bread and it has a slightly malty taste, the slices are quite small but perfect for topping with fried or poached eggs and with the carb value being so low I find it worthwhile as I had completely given up bread before.

Re: Granery bread

OOOO Crumpets!!!! Where did you get them? I seriously missed them last winter!

Re: Granery bread

The Liv bread is Ok. It is expensive at £1.99 for a small loaf. It doesn't taste like regular bread but that should be expected given its ingredients. These do include soya flour which to me gives the aftertaste. I have bought it and will do so again but I regard it as an alternative to the low carb bread recipes you can find on line in many places.

Re: Granery bread

I agree,it IS a tad expensive at £1.99 a pop and homemade flax based breads are nicer..I guess it's convenient in a rush but it is a good sign that Low carb is being slowly recognised by the food industry which is a positive!

Re: Granery bread

I have tried various flax seed items but I find I don't like the consistency of the bread or muffin and some times I can't even manage to swallow it. I hate the stuff.

Re: Granery bread

Even if you are only using small portions, do test after granary bread -- I find that some is OK, but some gives me big spikes (don't go near Waitrose granary, whatever you do -- they seem to have changed the ingredients and now it might as well be lucozade).

Re: Granery bread

Well i have bought the burgen bread and will let the birds get fat on the granary. Its only breakfast now that i eat bread. I stick to a mix lunchtime of apple celery cheese cubes and fruit from my fruit bowl. Either chicken or fish at night with fresh veg and according to how hungry i am maybe 3 little charlotte potatoes.
I have eased off on the yoghurts since ive had this terrible gas.

Re: Granery bread

Paul, yes I found the Livwell crumpets quite nice. They're not as spongy as regular ones but tasty with butter

Re: Granery bread

I went to Aldi the other day and looked at the bread I used to buy.

'Sweepings from a pigeon loft' stuff. Sliced wholemeal with lots of grains.

Looked at the carb content per slice and it was over 20g !!

I normally buy Burgen but occasionally stray to Vogels which I love.

I haven't a clue about the carbs per slice for that one.....

Edit:

Just checked and 1 slice of Vogels Soya and Linseed bread is "per 1 slice - Calories: 95kcal | Fat: 2.10g | Carbs: 14.30g | Prot: 4.90g "

I eat 2 slices for my brekkie with 2 scrambled eggs, few swipes of cheese from a grater and it fills me up well for a few hours. And I really like Vogels bread but it is way over Burgen which is 3.8 (something like that anyway....)

Back to the drawing board then eh, I just don't enjoy eating Burgen bread....
