Great news from Canada!

I wouldnt get too excited it says in that link that "nearly 200 doctors..." and I just googled "how many registered doctors are there in Canada" and this is what I found.

"According to the latest annual report from the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), there were more than 77,000 physicians in the country last year—an all-time high and a 3.4% increase over 2012. The number of physicians per population (220 per 100,000) was also the highest ever recorded."

Sorry but how much difference do you really think that .25% of doctors in Canada will make?

I seriously doubt that this will cause even a ripple of interest outside of the low carb community?

Well I thought I was cynical...
True it is a small number (I must admit I hadn't realised it was that small in percentage terms) but at least the genie is partly out of the bottle. I have so far quite high hopes of the new Trudeau administration in Canada so maybe someone will take a proper look for once and not dismiss this out of hand. Will continue to watch and hope.

Go Canada, I always knew you were clever. The easiest way for the 200 is to wait for the usual statement from the establishment where they say, "There are hundreds of studies showing the link between fat and heart disease", and then ask them to name one. This usually slows them down a bit.

It works here as well. One very amusing incident was on BBC Breakfast who had Dr. Kendrick on as a guest. That's the same Dr. Kendrick that has challenged anyone to send him a reference to a study. On the big screen behind Kendrick was a Professor who made the very "fat" statement above. They got him and Kendrick in the same shot. Kept me smiling for ages.

Even throwing a pebble into calm waters causes some form of wave...

The CDA is a joke but I suppose it can't hurt. They just parrot whatever the ADA is saying. My doctor is certainly not one of the 200 but is supportive of low carb. The problem is they are not allowed to recommend it because they have to follow the guidelines. Hopefully the guidelines will change soon but I am not holding my breath.

I couldn't download the PDF, unfortunately. Yes, the CDA is a joke.

partway through the article is this statement:

Interestingly, the letter advances Brazil as a good example. Loffelmann says that’s because Brazil’s dietary guide is “as close to perfect as we can expect to get”.

So I looked up Brazil's dietary guidance and got this:
http://www.foodpolitics.com/wp-content/uploads/Brazilian-Dietary-Guidelines-2014.pdf

It is a delightful read! Still too carb heavy for me, but then it isn't aimed at T2s, and the amount of common sense contained in the doc is very refreshing.

Seems very similar to the mediterranean diet.

"This use of processed foods is not recommended in these Guidelines." Good advice.

Even better advice: "The golden rule. Always prefer natural or minimally processed foods and freshly made dishes and meals to ultra-processed foods"

"USE OILS, FATS, SALT, AND SUGAR IN SMALL AMOUNTS"

Thought you would be all over this.

I must admit, I eat a lot of the roots and tubers, not really into too much rice though, and I certainly restrict the red meats, but I am quite glad it's seen as a good diet by many here.
