i was curious about this question myself but really didnt know so i used my good friend google and this is what i found

What makes green tea so special?

The secret of green tea lies in the fact it is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant: besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. It has also been effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots. The latter takes on added importance when you consider that thrombosis (the formation of abnormal blood clots) is the leading cause of heart attacks and stroke.

and i think a cup size is about the size of a normal coffee mug if not a little bit less i would say so if your drinking a big latte sized mug then i would say your hitting the target to reach its full benefits.

WebMD Health NewsReviewed by Brunilda Nazario, MDBoth black tea and green tea are good for diabetes, a rat study shows. They also prevent diabetic animals from developing cataracts.

The findings appear in the May 4 issue of the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

"Black and green tea represent a potentially inexpensive, nontoxic, and, in fact, pleasurable [blood-sugar-lowering] agent," the researchers write. "Tea may be a simple, inexpensive means of preventing or retarding human diabetes and the ensuing complications."

In the study, the researchers gave green and black teas to diabetic rats for three months.

They found both kinds of tea inhibited diabetic cataracts. The teas also had a blood-sugar-lowering effect.

To get the same dose of tea given to the rats, a 143-pound person would have to drink 4.5 8-ounce cups of tea every day.
The researchers recommend that tea -- black and green -- should be studied for an antidiabetes effect in humans.


I have this strange image of Rats sipping Green Tea........ :? As you can see it hasn't been tried out on Humans. Still can't beat a cuppa - Green or Black . Ahhhh.

A few years ago when I was not only obese (hindsight is a wonderful thing!) but also ill, I saw an alternative health person for accupuncture and general health check.

He made recommendations to my diet (eg. limit bread, rice, pasta and potato intake!!), yogurt in the morning etc etc. And it worked well. The one thing he recommended me was to have a cup of Green Tea with Peppermint after each of my main meals as it would help boost my digestive system etc.

I still enjoy a cup every now and again, but not reglarly - perhaps one should get back into the Green Tea again. I have a lovely one with Peppermint and Orange which I get sent over from Denmark (family) and I always liked it very much!

I got into drinking Green Tea a couple of years back after having some at a chinese restaurant. At the time it seemed to really help digestion. It was only retrospectively that I found out that it was an effective anti-oxident with a host of health benefits. Then I heard it had BS lowering capabilities too so I began drinking it in earnest.

I have to say I think I OD'd on it and I began to feel a bit ropey after a while. I noticed my BS were unaffected and didn't improve, but I had blushing attacks after drinking it too. My friend at work (not a diabetic) was drinking a lot of it also and reported feeling ropey after drinking several cups a day as well.

Personally I think perhaps it should be drank in moderation and we've both cut back significantly.
If you're going to drink it Twinings do a nice one, the stuff from chinese supermarkets [Sea Dyke brand] seems a lot stronger in terms of taste & affect.

That would be the Dormouse, surely?

Yes both types of tea may have various benefits, anecdotally BG lowering is usually minor to nonexistent though.

No. It was definitely a rat. :shock:
Still prefer a mug of Earl Grey. I'm not bothered what it does for me. It tastes good.
