Greetings and a question

Hello all. Known about this forum for a while but just decided to sign up.

My name is Stephen, i'm 24 and was diagnosed was type 1 diabetes in September last year. Being diagnosed with diabetes hasn't really changed much, I take care of myself a bit better and make sure not to skip meals. I was generally fairly healthy before diagnosis. I will not let it get in the way of me living my life! :)

On that note, I have a question. I am planning on going to Canada on a 1 year work visa. One of the conditions for the visa is that I have health/travel insurance for the full period of stay. I was wondering how travel insurance works if I had to get a prescription in Canada. Would I have to wait till the end of my trip to claim it back?

Are there insurance companies which let you make the claims online or give you some form of payment for prescriptions etc. for example, a card that you hand in to the pharmacy that can bill the insurance company straight away?

I believe I have everything else covered, I just want to make sure I won't run into any problems while I am over there.

Hi Steven, can't really help you with travel insurance advice. I'm a type 2 not on insulin. Just wanted to say Welcome to the forum. I'm sure someone with experience of this will be along soon.
 
I suspect that you should be looking more at health insurance than travel insurance if you are there for a complete year.

Travel insurance is generally for when you are mainly travelling and is usually restricted over how long any one trip should be and how many trips you can take in a year.

It might be worth checking online with a Canadian health insurance firm to see what kind of deal they would offer.
