Hi All,
I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes in Sep 2014 and high cholesterol also. The doc’s wanted to put me on medication. But I refused. I told them to give me 3 months to let me control my diabetes and cholesterol through diet and exercise.
It was depressing for me to hear that I had diabetes and cholesterol. Started reading up, and thanks to this forum, I managed to lower my HBA1C level from 7.4% to 5.8% and my cholesterol from 6.8 to 5.2
Diet.
For Breakfast, I used to eat oats, but now, it’s 5 egg whites, 2 spoons of milled flaxseed, 3 spoons of powdered unsalted peanuts and 2 spoons of olive oil.
Lunch was usually rice / noodles with meat and vegetables, but now it’s homemade salad with some tofu and ½ a can of tuna.
Dinner was rice with curry, now its salad with curry.
Took plant sterols capsule to bring down the cholesterol.
Stopped fruits completely, maybe ½ a grapefruit before I go for my long runs.
I used to gun down 6 pints of Guinness @ 1 sitting. Now I have completely stopped the stuff. It’s Pure Blonde or San Miguel Lite Beer. And not all the time, maybe once in fortnight but in moderation.
Exercise.
Started exercising 3 times a week now compared to 1 time a week.
Weight.
I dropped my weight from 84kg to 73kg, My BMI is now 22.5.
I do not have the craving for carbs, but do I crave for cigarettes. That will be my New Year resolution to quit smoking.
I know that I am not cured of my diabetes, but I will strive to keep in check with diet and exercise. Will try to bring my cholesterol down to 4.5 and HBA1C to 5% by March 2015.
I just wanted to say a big thank all those in the forum, for their motivation, banter, advise and their thoughts. This forum gave me information than what the GPs gave me.
I'm sworn off it for goodThanks Mike, hopefully to have a pint of Guinness with you in the near future.
