I am a Health Care professional who is interested in creating diabetes awareness and health promotion amongst communities in the UK and Sierra Leone West Africa. Lack of Knowledge, late Diagnosis and lack of resourses have caused sufferers in Africa to be stereotyped as witches and wizzards. When diabetic ulcers get worse and limbs get amputated then the name calling begins. I need assisstance to help these less fortunate people. Please advice. Thank you. :(

Hello Salome .
We here at d.c.u.k are a supporting online via P.C forum.
We cant offer any active assistance to you personally in a practical action sense .

All I can think off as a suggestion - is can you try contacting red cross, unicef, save the children, and see if they
can help with ways of assistance ?
Also I suggest to try contacting IDDT they 'do' arrange and send unused in date insulins out to children in africa.
[I know this as I myself sent my unused in date levemir insulin pens in to IDDT to be sent for the
children]
This is a real active help to get insulin out to the children who cant get any insulin but desperately
need it!

Am sorry I cant help you in a more practical sense or way.
Hope my suggested options can lead to some form of assisted help for you.

Anna.

Thank you Anna. I will try to contact the groups you mentioned. I know most of these names are presently carrying out projects in Sierra Leone but not linked directly to D|iabetes. I am also working on trying to register my group Friends of Diabetes Sierra Leone as a charity group. Thank you very much for your help.
