Hi all

I was wondering if its possible to do a GTT at home with the same sort of drink (that the lab gives you) and then test on my home meter 2 hours later......has anyone tried something like this? or is this just a waste of time?

As far as I can see you need to consume 75 grams of glucose. You may be able to get that from a pharmacy. Alternatively drinking 400ml of Lucozade is roughly the same.

For the test to be ok you will need to consume at least 150g of carbs a day for the 3 days prior to the test.

My rural surgery does its GTT using a 400ml bottle of lucozade energy, which by memory contains 59 gms of glucose.

The amount of glucose needed varies according to body weight, however the lucozade test can provide a base line so you can measure your progress.

The lucozade should be consumed first thing in the morning and obviously no other food is taken.During the two hours before you test sit quietly and do not exercise.
