Shock of my life last dental check up I have two loose teeth one on the top front and one at the back bottom. Dentist said i periodontal disease and prescribed me a strong fluoride toothpaste but it burns my mouth and can't use it . I#m back this month so not sure what to expect.

Is this reversable and are my teeth going to fall out ?

Hello.

If it’s caught early enough then yes, with careful, regular flossing and cleaning, the disease can be contained and reversed but it really does depend how advanced the condition is.
I lost several teeth to gum disease and it was too late to reverse mine but, since I’m now 52 and I was told I’d lose all my teeth by 25, I think I have actually done okay.

Good luck and keep brushing.

Hi
I had the same problem just before my diagnosis and my dentist actually reduced me to tears. Each of my teeth scored a 4 or 5 for being loose due to high sugars causing severe gum disease. I did everything my dentist advised and had my teeth scaled and cleaned every 6 weeks or so and also sorted out my blood sugar. I have lost no teeth and all of my teeth have basically tightened up in my gums scoring mainly 1 and 2. So yes you can reverse it if you keep on top of everything including preventing high blood sugar. Good luck

My teeth are in a bit of a state, but firmly fixed - I use a mouthwash.
You might find that it helps your gums recover too - it is just an ordinary off the supermarket shelf sort - a fluoride toothpaste is unlikely to do anything useful if my understanding of what fluoride is supposed to do is correct.
I would have thought that very gentle cleaning would have been the instruction given.

You've given me hope thank you all , I was told to clean twice a day and floss i was told to get those little brushes to push through my teeth but they were getting stuck lol, I was really upset as I take care of my teeth always have done , so now this is really encouraging and I will try some mouthwash and also some floss string .

Thanks so much as always encouragement on this wonderful forum x

If the methods of cleaning involve moving loose teeth about I can only advise not to do so - I have teeth so close together that I cannot floss, which is why I decided on the mouthwash in the first place. I was advised to floss by forcing the thread between my teeth, there was a 'crack' and a wisdom tooth was loosened so I stopped at once, but I got an abscess needing antibiotics.

I don't force it through if i can't easily put the thread through i don't. I used some mouthwash last night and this morning and already my gums feels less swollen.

I'm really not keen on high fluoride toothpaste , I use kingfisher with fluoride and now the mouthwash and fingers crossed hoping it will help heal my gums .

Thanks for the advise

The link to high blood sugar-heart disease is scary.

I had it too and within a month of cutting sugar and processed foods, swelling reduced.

6 mos in, my dental health has been better than any time in life.

I regret the loss of teeth but I’m glad to see health and strength return.
