Hi everybody before I start for some reason I had trouble logging into my old account and was otherwise known as sugar pie :) I just wanted to let you all know that on the 22 dec 2014 I received the biggest gift from an unknown donor. All went remarkably well and I had a very short stay in hospital, 10 days. Things have continued to improve each day. My blood sugars are fantastic, a few blips but I'm still learning. I often wake up with a bs of 4.5 and go to bed with a bs of anything between 4 and 7. I have found out that pizza is a no no as I ended up going t 12.6, but to be honest I'm not a huge pizza fan. I still have the staples in my torso (40 approx.) and hopefully they will be taken out next week. Life seems totally different now. No more pumping and no more peritoneal dialysis. I finally feel happy in myself and life is looking good. I can honestly say I am looking forward to coming off benefits and going back to work. All I need to do is get used to the low blood pressure and wait for my body to get used to the tablets which have unpleasant side effects, but hey ho! My stomach is still tender but definitely bearable, throughout my whole time I was never in pain and I'm a real baby. I had the most amazing xmas and new year in hospital all thanks to the most wonderful and amazing nhs doctors and nurses. I will never ever be able to thank the donor or his family and even if I could thanks doesn't seem enough. All I know is that the donor has given me back my life and for that I will be eternally grateful :shy:

That really is a lovely story. Good luck with your ongoing recovery.

Surely, if there is anyone out there unsure about carrying a donor card for post-mortem donation, this might just nudge them in the right direction. Surely?

I am so happy for you, Clare. Best of luck with your recovery!

I second AndBreathe's sentiments regarding organ donation. It was one of the first things I did when I moved here.

Hope you continue to make good progress Claire, I'm sure the donors family will take some comfort that their loved one has helped save the lives of others.

Keep getting better ....enjoy life .....
Take care kat

What a wonderful, positive post, it's truly heart warming. I hope 2015 continues to go from strenght to strenght for you, for your health and happiness.too.

Lovely' meeting you', take good care,

Best wishes RRB :)

Wow! Glad everything went well and that you are feeling much better in such a short time!

I have heard that it can months for full functioning to occur, so you may have to lay off the pizza now, but next year you might be able to eat whatever you want as much as you want!

Not to pry, but might i ask the conditions that you were in that allowed this procedure to work? I don't know much about pancreas transplants and am curious at what point a T1D would need (and be allowed) to have one.

Feel better, and take it easy until it all settles into its new home!
