Not extremely high for someone with prediabetes at all.checked my BG 2 hrs later and it was at 8.6, checked again to be sure and it was 8.1.
Surely this is extremely high for someone with prediabetes?
Not extremely high for someone with prediabetes at all.
The hba1c for someone with prediabetes is between 42 and 48, which means an average blood glucose of somewhere between 7.0 and 7.8, very close to your peak of less than 9.
Which seems to show the keto diet works. Also I was on a keto diet, very low carbs for the 3-4 weeks so the highest figure I had was about 5.2mmol

If the highest you were was 5.2, or even if that is your average and you keep it up, your hba1c should be well below 42.
What kind of numbers did you see on your meter before you changed your diet? It's likely to have averaged around 7.
You ate about 50gs of carbs in one go after coming off a Keto diet.
You need to carb up for at least 3 days of 150g of carbs before even attempting a 75g OGTT.
You've just turned off the pump, your beta cells need to be challenged again for a few days before normal insulin secretion rates return.
I know it was silly of me, as I had a weak moment. How do you suggest I move forward as I do want to incorporate a little more carbs?
So I've been on a keto diet for the past month or so. Unfortunately I slipped up today and had a sandwich + 2 x crisps... checked my BG 2 hrs later and it was at 8.6, checked again to be sure and it was 8.1.

Some who is not diabetic can have spikes like that. I wouldn't worry too much, it won't make a difference. Your bm been around 5.2 or lower, I am sure it will be well below 40.So I've been on a keto diet for the past month or so.
