Hair Transplants

I've been a type 1 diabetic for 34 years (since I was 8). I've never allowed being a diabetic to bother me and I've never let it stop my doing anything even when I was young. I generally look after myself - stay the right weight, exercise regularly etc and my control has always been reasonably good (HBA1C ranges from 42 to 46 over the last few years).

This might seem amusing to some (particularly my wife and children) but I've now lost quite a lot of my hair and I don't like it!!! I'm clearly going through some kind of mid-life crisis but I would like to consider a hair transplant. As with most cosmetic procedures, I'm aware that they are not recommended for type 1 diabetics. However, I would be interested to hear if anyone is aware of a diabetic that has had one and what the potential issues are.

I've received plenty of good natured abuse about this from friends and family so happy to receive it from people on hear as well. Look forward to your comments!!!

Hi @SpeakN, If hair loss, or balding does not run in the family, or has happened you much sooner than with other close male relatives it might be worth speaking with your doctor about testing some hormone levels, just to be sure !!
