FYI Sid A study was done a while back, where a group of people ate nothing but fat and lost weight FAST. as soon as a bit of carb was added, the weightloss stopped. If you read Gary Taubes, he quotes loads of evidence that calories are not the key. A generation ago John Yudkin wrote the same. Not only do i know that fats are approximately 9cal per gram and carbs and proteins are approx 4cal per gram, but I even know what a calorie is and the difference between a calorie and a Calorie. I'm 3 stone lighter than I was when I ate low calorie and about the same weight as I was at 30 years old. [I'm 66] If I were an internal combustion engine, calories might matter, but I'm an enzyme moderated mechanism, thus my body handles different food substances differently. Fats are not processed in the same way as carbs or proteins,For their actual calorie count to matter, they would have to be. After all the calorific value of food is worked out in a bomb calorimeter, which literally combusts the food. It can be used to work out the calorific value of coal or mineral oil. I can't process either of those. Hana
