Hello,

I'm T1 diagnosed last January. Have been having occasionally painful feet and legs, doc said its an inflammation of the nerves. Recently though I've been getting very bad pains in my hands and knees (thumbs or fingers completely stiff and swollen or can't stretch leg so need to use crutches). Feels like tendons/joints rather than nerve pain. anyone know if this is a common diabetes thing I'm meant to expect? BG levels are good.

thanks in advance

Hi Sarah. It could be arthritis, which can occur in T1 diabetics more commonly than in the general population. As you are recently diagnosed, it might resolve as your blood sugar improves.

As you say your bg levels are good I wouldn't expect it has anything to do with your diabetes, this is particularly so as you've only been diagnosed 3 months.

What treatment method has your Dr recommended for the inflamation?

Doctor says it's most likely vitamin D deficiency. Prescribed an anti-inflammatory/painkiller until I get the blood test to check for deficiency. It's easier just blaming everything on the diabetes :D Thanks for the help!
