please can anyone tell me if thay have cracks on their fingers which take a long while to heal ony to crack again its very painful i have tried every thing i have type 2 thanks mary

Hi Mary,

I had a similar problem last winter, and I used good old ponds cold cream, slathered on, at bedtime, because as a nurse I have to constantly wash my hands or use antibacterial gel ( alcahol based)

But then put on thin cotton manicure gloves from boots, very cheap, or even disposable latex in you can bear going to bed with them on, .. This cleared me up within a week

Hope it helps, so very sore I know.

Hello Mary
do use any chemicals, household cleaners, etc? These can be very harsh on skin, even more so if you have sensitive skin. Have you had this skin condition checked out by your GP, you might have an allergy? Whats your bg levels like, some people complain of dry skin, especially if their bg levels are higher than they should be.

If you wear rubber gloves to do the housework, put on a pair of cotton gloves to wear underneath the rubber gloves even if they are lined.
My skin sometimes becomes sore and cracked, I am an outdoors person and the wind and cold can play havoc with my hands if I am not careful. Get hold of Neutrogena Norwegian Forumula handcream (any chemist or supermarket usually sell this product), apply it thickly before you go to bed, then put on cotton gloves or cotton socks over them and leave overnight, see if that makes a difference, repeat as necessary. Use unperfumed products on your skin to avoid irritation. Always dry your hands if they have been in water.

All the best, hope you will feel more comfortable soon

I am exactly the same Mary. I was only diagnosed a few weeks ago after a routine doctors trip for my flu injection. I suffered for years with Eczema and thought maybe it was just another flareup but after using my usual cream, still no joy, the joints of my fingers are extremely painful, cracking and blistering and I just cannot get them healed. Have been told to avoid creams that contain alcohol so gonna have to go looking for this Ponds too. Thanks for the tip alliebeexx

I have had this in previous years, although it seems better since I controlled my sugar levels. I used a product called 'Germolene new skin'. I used it to sort of sticks the cracks together, which stopped any wet getting in and it becoming sore. Worked a treat for me, although if the area is quite deep, it does sting a bit.

Edited to make link work

Mary,

The best cream for chapped/cracked skin is a product called Neutrogena, apply this cream for a few days and the cracks on your hands will be history and they'll feel like a baby's bum! :)

Although the squidgy stuff will be white, not a green/brown colour and it will smell nicer
I used to use neutrogena for chapped hands when I worked as a landscaper. - good stuff
