I'm currently 'jumping through hoops' (quote from my DSN) to get a pump. I've had this cursed condition for nearly 40 years. I took up 'running' last Summer, and, as with all exercise,I'm at risk from lack of hypo awareness. Worst so far was when I found myself running with a bs of 1.5. I've been asking my GP to refer me for years and I had to push to see a DSN. GP says a pump is too complicated for me to use..thanks Doc! I've been waiting to go on the DAFNE course for 2 years but didn't push as I've been carbohydrate counting since day 1 but I'm told I have to do a course pre-pump panel. I've found an independent site called 'Input' which says that a course isn't necessary if you can show knowledge of carb counting*. I've been booked on the Expert patient programme which I think may be of little use.....Has anyone been on this course pre-pump panel please? I'd be very grateful to hear from successful pump users.
*This site may be very useful. I'm now prepared for a battle, I'll be printing it off to take to my DSN appointment. If anyone else is tryng to get an independent view of the issues involved in being considered for a pump, I think it 's well worth a look.
Thank you,
Sue
