Has anyone ever fainted after coming down from being High?

Hi,

The other night, I had a kink in my cannula of my insulin pump which resulted in my bloods being over 30 for half the night, when I finally got them down, and my ketones, I felt ready for a shower and then I just fainted!

My partner was great he checked my sugars and they were 12.2 but we both have no idea why I fainted, especially since its never happened before (and I've had diabetes for 14 years)

Has this happened to anyone else? thanks

Coming back down from 30 to 12.2 is a big drop but not sure if this may be the cause of you fainting, so I would have a word with your gp or diabetes nurse about this episode to ask for their professional opinion. It's something that has never happened to myself in nearly 30 years with type 1, but that's not to say it doesn't happen so best get this checked out!

Alas, I have been 30 in the past, and have come down from that number...but I have never fainted. Like Nigel, I don't actually know what is normal, becasue it isn't really a normal situation, if you know what I mean?

i would try and talk to your DSN, or local expert. It could be a blood pressure thing? I do feel pretty awful...but improve as my blood sugar comes down. The only diabetes linked "fainting" I have done is with hypos, not hypers.

Hope you are feeling better now...and well done your other half for checking your sugar...as that answered teh obvious question!

When you say "I felt ready for a shower and then I just fainted", do you mean you stood up from lying down or sitting down ready to go for a shower? Some people can faint with changes in posture - so-called postural hypotension (low blood pressure). Or, change in temperature, particularly from cold to hot, can cause a faint, but that doesn't sound like what happened, as a bed tends to be warmer than other places at night.
Good on partner for checking one possible explanation. Worth mentioning to medical team to rule out other reasons eg blood pressure. But, it might just be "one of those things".

Yes it was really wierd, it's never happened before, 3 years ago I seized in the night but that's about it and that was a hypo so that one was understandable.
I do usually have quite low blood pressure so maybe your right. I'm just waiting for my nurse to get back to me as she's been off since it happened :(
Thanks for your thoughts guys, much appreciated
