Has anyone felt sick on metformin?

It's my 4th day and I've been to the bathroom six times already today with diarrhea. Is this normal at first?

Unfortunately it can be , some of us do not tolerate metformin

Yes I had some sickness and diarrhoea when started taking them a few months ago it lasted for me about a week or so but as long as I remember to take it with food have not had any problems did not remember this morning and felt quite sickly for a couple of hours.

When I have started to take it, I was also feeling this way. I was having this overall sick feeling, I was also having diarrhea and so on and so forth. However, I continued to use it since my doc. warned me that similar effects might happen when you are firstly put on Metformin (I have type 2 diabetes, you @JoeyK ?). But, with time it does get better. at least it did get better for me because there are other people who cannot tolerate it at all, regardless how much time they take it. But not me. Although I am still getting a slught sick feeling after I use it, it goes away few minutes (no more than an hour) later and it is nothing "too bad", especially if comparing to how it used to be in the past. Generally, I think that you should read and inform yourself more about this medicine when you start taking it. I knew that something like this might happen because I asked my doctor and I read about it a lot online. I suggest you doing the same.

Anyway, I see that almost a day have passed, are you better by now? Best of luck

@JoeyK - You are obviously not suited to that Metformin. Go back and see your GP and tell him/her of your suffering, there is Metformin SR that is better tolerated that you could get prescribed.
