Is that 38g per 100g, or 38g per jar, or something else? Before I began seriously regulating my blood glucose, I used to enjoy Thursday Cottage reduced sugar preserves. I didn't check my blood glucose, so I had no idea how I reacted. Generally, my diabetes was uncontrolled, but I also ate bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, etc., so can't say how the Thursday Cottage specifically affected me. I've avoided it since, went for occasional Stute sugar-free marmalade instead, but tbh, don't like it very much. Thinking of trying Thursday Cottage again, but on low carb bread. It has NO artificial sweetener, just less sugar - 38 gms as opposed to 62 gms in their regular preserves. I realise that we have different tolerances, but still would love feedback if anyone has tried it. Thanks. https://www.thursday-cottage.com/co...owaGMopHn4sp9oJhSdudMURumHWjCSFQVYJXgRRV_P0a2
Do you use a glucose meter so you can see how you react to it?That would be 38 gms per 100 gms, so a typical portion for one slice would have say 3-4 gms of sugar. From the lack of response to my post, I gather it's not popular. I don't know if it's pushing the boat out too far, but having discovered a low carb bread that I actually like, I'm starting to hanker after marmalade on toast, and I don't really like the Stute sugar-free option.
From memory, the Thursday Cottage reduced sugar preserves lasted quite some time.Well it looks delicious. And the ingredients are simple as well. I have just made some blackberry jam this morning. The blackberries are from my garden. So 9 cups of Blackberries, 5 cups sugar and 3 tbs lemon juice. No pectin as blackberries have enough.
My question is, and it might be a daft one, but sugar is the preservative. What is the shelf life of Thursday Cottage Jams? My math ability is not up to much , but I'm sure it's more than that. I made 4 x 250 mml jars. An unholy amount of carbs I'm sure . I would like to reduce the sugar content in mine.
I don't think we can get Thursday Cottage jams here unfortunately.
I might well do that. But I haven't seen it in local shops, so I'd have to order online and pay for delivery, making it an expensive treat - like the low carb sourdough bread already is!Do you use a glucose meter so you can see how you react to it?
At 3-4 grams of carbs a portion, plus the carbs from the low carb toast, I'd definitely give it a try is you crave it!
If your meter tells you this is too much for breakfast, it may be your body can handle it later in the day. Many of us can handle more carbs later in the day instead of at first meal.
