Have I got Diabetes

Hi,

Is there a dynamic way of measuring for diabetes? I have many fasting tests that draw blanks but my gut feel says I have diabetes. My grandfather suffered from it but I have been diagnosed with ME. Here are my symptomns.

1/ blurring eyes especially bad in morning.
2/ Constant thirst
3/ lack of energy
4/ Itching testicles
5/ Get really tired after food or if I take a fizzy drink

I am 58 5' 9 , 4stone and have been putting on wieght in the last 18 months.


I bought an Accu meter . Is it worth me monitoring two or three times a day?

Right now I am being diagnosed with ME which started about 4 years ago .

Any advice would be useful.

We are not allowed to 'diagnose' on here, but I would say your symptoms are suggestive of diabetes, and if your fasting blood tests have all been okay, perhaps you should ask for an oral glucose tolerance test (where they give you a glucose solution to drink and then you stay there and they take a few blood tests over 2 or 3 hours). As you have bought a meter, you could do some finger prick tests too, before and 2 hours after meals. I hope a more knowleadgeable Type 2 wil be along soon to help you.

Your symptoms could be due to something other than diabetes though, so best go back to you GP anyway.

I think the best thing is to discuss this with your doctor voicing your concerns and ask for blood and Glucose tolerance tests to set your mind at rest one way or the other.
 
Chris, are your fasting levels normal? I don't have diabetes but do have impaired fasting bg, and I had all the symptons (apart from the itchy testicles!!) you have which have all been alleviated now I control my diet with the aid of a blood glucose meter.
