Hiya,

Please, please, please give me your opinion on this as advice from people who have been in this situation would be really appriacated
I am currently 25 years old, pretty healthy, not overweight & no other medical conditions. Ever since i was around the age of 15/ 16 i have suffered with dizziness, light headed feeling, looking pale at times, weakness etc. i always put this down to the doctors telling myself ( my sister who is 2 years older also has exactly the same symptoms) having low bloody pressure.
The numerous doctors over the years told us to be happy with our lower end blood pressure as, higher blood pressure causes more problems, and they felt we wasnt low enough to need medication.

I carried on as normal having to try live with these feelings until last year when i collapsed after doing some light exercise with my family. I was out for a good 20 minutes until the Ambulance arrived, i didnt go to hospital as i dont like them! He took my bloody sugar reading which was 4. He deemed this low to say i'd only done light exercise, it was around 9 o clock at night & i'd already had my tea before i did the exercise.

I then started visiting the doctors, hospitals to try & finally find out what this was. I am currently under the hospital for investigation. I have had fasting tests done which all come back ok, liver, kidneys etc all ok.
They have now sent me home with my own blood glucose testing kit to try test at different times of the day to get a different reading.
My readings all seem to come out around the 4- 4.5 mark, with a few 5.2's at night time but i had the lowest reading 2 days ago with 3.8 then dropping to 3.7. I had only just eaten a 'normal' lunch of chicken curry with rice & some brown wholemeal bread only approx 2 hours before.

I seem to get some of the symptoms of looking on the internet of some diabetes and nearly all Hypoglycemia symptoms. I especially get the nocturnal hypo's where i wake up so tired & wake up in the night sweating, which i am not even a sweaty person! I did a 10k run last year with difficultly managing these symptoms and didnt sweat hardly anything!

If anybody has any advice i would be really, really grateful.

Thank you,

Hollie

Welcome to the Forum.

Only the Doctors can truly tell you if you are Diabetic by doing tests on you.

Did the doctor ever say what your blood pressure is ?

As for hypos, even non diabetics can get low blood sugar levels. It depends on what you ate and how much activity you had etc.

For a diabetic, taking readings just before a meal and two hours after usually shows how the food has affected their blood sugar levels, yours seem in the non diabetic range but it all depends on when you took the readings.

You're making us all jealous having blood sugar levels that low! I'm not a doctor, but everything I know tells me you do NOT have diabetes. Those levels aren't even that low for a non diabetic even. About norm. Your far more likely to have mild fainting fits from low blood pressure - not harmful, probably get them as well if you bend over or stand up too quick? Diabetes is easy to diagnose by a doctor - if they thought there was even a slight chance you had it, they'd send you for a blood test. If you're worried, tell the doctor you WANT a diabetes test. Dead easy.

Hi Hollie,

You do sound rather worried about having diabetes. The thing is, your glucose readings sound ok to me. Someone who has Diabetes, has a pancreas that doesn't quite work properly. When a person has food or drink, the pancreas is supposed to get rid of the glucose (sugar) from the body. In a Diabetic person, the pancreas can't do this properly. This results in HIGH readings not low readings (as there is now excess glucose in the body) The reason Diabetics get such low readings (hypoglycaemia) is normally due to medication, ie insulin or tablets. Diabetics use tablets to help the pancreas, or use insulin as a substitute for what the pancreas should have made. As Sugarless Sue said, it is normal for a healthy person to suffer from the odd low number. (you are getting nice low numbers without the need for medication which is what all us Diabetics would love to happen for us) Normally when your routine is different and you may have skipped a meal or being particularly busy and feeling hungry. It makes you feel a bit weak and a bit snappy and you just need some food or drink. I think you stick with your hospital and await their advice on the information they get from the current investigations they are doing for you.

Thank you all for your replies.
i'd be really happy to swap all my low readings with you all :-)

I think they did a diabetes test but nothing really pointed towards anything but they were still stumpted by my feelings of constant weakness, dizziness and blurred vision.

I have another app on 16th Feb so i'll post my findings

Thank you again!

Hollie
