Before Christmas my blood sugars were coming down and I really felt that things were getting better. Over Christmas I was mostly very good and kept low carb with only a couple of days were I had things I shouldn't, the alcohol however was another matter and we did over indulge! My numbers this week are higher and not where I would like, yesterday was my 500 cal day (5:2) and always a sure way to get numbers down but mid afternoon was 6.3 3 hours after a very light lunch and bedtime was 5.9, usually around 5.3 on a fast day, This morning my FBS was 6.6! Had bacon tomato and scrambled egg for breakfast and 4 hours later I am 6.7! Have I messed myself up? This is my first Christmas since diagnosis, Is it likely to settle down again now I am back to my usual diet. So worried.

Hello Donndoobie,we are fortunate in that our bodies do recover with tender loving treatment, eat to your meter and" portion control" will help your bs's settle, i have been portion controlling now for over a year and i'm rarely over4 mmol am fasting and 6.8 2 hrs post dinner( and yes i do eat things we are not supposed too! But only in tiny amounts) clive

You just need to be a bit patient and let your body settle back down again into its normal routine. But I don't think those figures are anything to worry about - time to start that is if they are several points higher. Be aware too that meters may not always be 100% accurate.

There are going to be times when our levels will not be where we'd prefer them to be and sometimes we have little or no control over this (e.g. raised levels due to stress or illness). We're not machines with perfect control and we have to accept this. So just carry on as normal, ignore little blips, and if you ever get any big ones, try to work out why and learn from that experience.

Thanks Clivethedrive and Robbity.

I am still learning and sometimes it all seems very scary but a year a go I would have been none the wiser and probably with higher numbers than this year. I was just getting numbers in the low 5's and 4's again before Christmas so will try to be patient for them to come back again.

Youve done really well so far and it is easy to fall off the wagon occasionally but you have put yourself back on track quickly and Im sure your numbers will continue to drop with time. I went off track for 6 weeks last year and my FBG is still suffering but I know it will sort itself out eventually.
