World Hereafter said:Like LucyLocket61, I attended DESMOND and had VERY similar experience - TOLD we MUST eat lots of starchy carbs at every meal (30% of plate), told NO NEED to self test as T2, told to cut out fat and "bad" cholesterols, told to lose weight and avoid sugar.
T2 was being 'blamed' on us being Fat or Eating Sugars. Strange, when only 20-25% of rrom were overweight, and at least 50% of us said we never take sugar in drinks or drink fizzies or eat sugary foods or processed foods/junk. Also sstrange, that over 80% of attendees said there was family history of T2 - but this was never discussed as possible cause!
On the whole, found the course quite patronising and basic and I was not alone in getting frustrated by their refusal to discuss issues which were not the "official agenda" (such as self-testing or low carbs etc).
If all T2's followed DESMOND's dietary advice, most of us would be in hospital with complications within 10-15 years (I did say that on the course.. went down like a lead balloon with the trainers).
