If this is mentioned elsewhere, or I have repeated it, then I do apologise - I have had a look but cannot find it - but I have been caught out before and apologise in advance if I have made a boo boo
In my lastest edition of 'balance' from Diabetes UK there is an article on how to get involved in NHS Decision making. It goes on to say that people living with Diabetes are increasingly being given the opportunity to have their say and help shape the NHS diabetes service (and I think most would agree this needs some attention). If you want to get involved you can visit Diabetes UK's User Involvement at http://www.diabetes.org.uk/user-involvement or user.involvement@diabetes.org.uk.
It would be great to hear back from anyone who wishes to get involved, this disease is rapidly spreading and I really feel that the NHS need to take it more seriously (particularly in relation to diet advice), but to make people more aware of the risks and how important it is to have checks for it not only if they are in the 'at risk' factor, I just did not fit into the stereo typical T2 and it was a huge shock to find I was diabetic - my understanding that this is not as uncommon as I at first thought!
Once diagnosed we all have to live with it, and as any diabetic knows it is an ongoing and daily issue so I do really feel our say with the NHS is absolutely vital. I only hope others agree, I just wish I had more time to devote to it :!:
It isn't specifically mentioned elsewhere, however we do have a user ID...... UserInvolvement who are actually DUK (Diabetes UK) and they sometimes post about their initiatives or events on the Forum. They haven't been around for a little while.
