Having A Lie-In

Does anyone know if having a lie-in at weekends affects your levels? Week days I usually take my insulin around 6.30 am 30mins before my breakfast. But weekends I have a lie-in until around 9.30am & take my insulin then. Does taking it 3 hours later make a difference?

It will depend on which insulin regime you're on. If you are on a basal-bolus regime (one or two injections of long acting insulin plus a quick acting injection before each meal), as long as you take your basal at the regular time, it should be OK to alter the time of your bolus to co inside with your late meal. The bolus insulin should have the same effect on your blood sugar whenever you take it. However, you need to be very sure that your basal insulin level is accurate and still taken at the same time as usual. I vary my evening meal time by up to 3 hours from weekends to week days and take the bolus accordingly. If I have a lay-in I still have to have the basal insulin at 07.00, so I keep it next to the bed and just wake up, take it and go back to sleep again then have my bolus when I finally get up and eat breakfast. That doesn't have any obvious effect on my blood sugar level when I test before the late breakfast.
If you are on just one or two mixed injections (ie morning and/or evening only) then having a late breakfast and injection is likely to have a negative effect on your blood sugar throughout the rest of the day.

Hi, I'm using Humulin M3 KwikPen (Lilly) Human Insulin 30% Soluble & 70% Isophane twice a day together with Metformin (2x500
3 times a day), Glicazide and Januvia.

In that case, i would think that having a long lie-in would increase your levels if you don't take the insulin and tablets at the normal time - ie. at 12hr intervals. The insulin you normally take will be measured to give you general cover over a 24hr period. Being late with a morning dose is likely to increase your blood sugar during the earlier part of the day, while then having your second dose (in effect "early" compared to the usual time gap) might then give you a low sugar later in the evening or during the night.
