i have been told by the doc to go back in one month if it hasnt gone down to see the dietiitian dont see how this can help as i have been diabetic since 2004 and there advice is carbs carbs i have been down this route for the last two years and this has were it has got me to
i asked for more meds to try and bring them down and got told this was the max for oral?????????????? anyway am trying to get them down but its a slow process the only reason i am posting this is just to warn people about the advic the nhs are giving out especially when they have took me from low carb hblc being 5.6 within two years to this i know this is partially my fault but when you have nurses and docs encouriging you you start to doubt but the proof is in the pudding so please anyone in the same predic please heard my warning

Hi Carlos,

Unfortunately we're hearing lots of cases of truly terrible NHS diet advice. At least you know it's bad advice and you're here. Welcome back and now lets start working on those numbers.

Good message Carlos. Now you know what to do - get back on that diet that worked for you. Good luck!

Hi Carlos,

Sorry to hear you've been having these problems. I saw a dietician once and, like you, the advice she gave me was pretty shocking. I suffered from an eating disorder when I was younger and was referred to a dietician to try and help me put on some weight and adopt a more healthy diet. She put together a mini plan for me. I was told that this new plan would give me all the nutrients and whatever else I needed to recover. It was very carb heavy - I guess this made sense at the time as I did need to put the pounds on. It also, however, had a lot of meat and foods with gluten (I'm vegetarian and allergic to gluten - both of which we had gone over in detail).

After going over the revised diet plan she gave ne a lecture about how I must stick to it as best I can. I can still have treats but I should be really careful with the calories and she even advised I checked the calorific content on the packets before eating anything and, wherever possible, going for the healthy options. Errr, after years of suffering from an eating disorder, does this really sound like good advice?!

Anyway, last time I went to see an NHS dietician! I know they're busy, but aren't we all?! Awful advice.

If I were you I'd cut right back on the carbs and try and get these levels under control. In future, if you're given advice and see your sugars rising and health deteriorating, stop ASAP and don't let it get this bad again!

Best of luck with it all.

Em
