Hi, I was wondering if having actimol drinks or similar would help manage my diabetes?
has anyone got any thoughts on this?

is this the probiotic yogurt drinks?

if so, I don't know if they would have any significant benefits as they are just yogurts........

yogurts in general can be low in carbs and in GI, so a slow, small effect on the blood sugar which is good.....

the good bacteria in them is good for the gut but as far as I know, this wont effect blood sugar......

but you wont be solely consuming these will you.........?

I don't know why you are taking it but I looked it up anyway and found that it has 3% sugar/100g in the plain, 10% in the original plain and 12% in the multi fruit. I guess that means that it will raise your BS but it all depends on how much of it you drink.

Can't see how it would help your diabetes as such, but if it improves your gut health (as they claim) then I can't see the harm, just make sure you include the carbs in the drink in your bolus calculation.

Apparently the probotics come from the following bacteria families
"Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp bulgaricus as well as Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus strains that are added for their probiotic properties."

Personally, I would not want to knowingly imbibe strep in any form. These bacteria have to overcome the strong stomach acid, and also then fight off the immune system that responds to a bacteria invasion, so again, I feel it is like bull baiting. Most of the probiotic elements probably fall at the first fence and research studies have apparently found little trace in the duodenum or lower bowel to prove that they successfully got to their intended destination alive. Good marketing strategy, but not necessarily reflecting reality.

The dietitian I saw at diabetic team advised me to take them but that was more because of other conditions I rate tablets daily.
