having medicals with type 1

Hi my husband and I are thinking of becoming foster carers and as part of that we both have to have medicals. Has anyone else had any experiences with having them? Do you know how detailed it will be how far back in my notes will they need to see etc? Or is anybody else a foster carer or adoptive parent?

logic doesn't always apply in cases like this unfortunately, but if people can work offshore and in high hazard industries with diabetes, it really shouldn't stop you either.

Anyway, good luck with it.

I know I'd be fine to work off shore at the minute, but I haven't had the medical for that I'm just comparing myself to others I know who also work off shore and I don't know how far back a medical will go back? Also when I tried to get life insurance they would only accept a medical from a consultant because I'm on the pump and I'm just with the GP. I'm going to speak to the foster recruitment guy this afternoon so I'll see what he says.
 
I guess the only people who will know will be the people who do the medical, and I just hope for the best for you in becoming foster parents, please tell us how it goes!

I have quite often been told I have a diffrent way of looking at things. I seems to we that having a family with a diabetic member (with presumably good enough control to feel capable of coping with a foster child) is giong to be an absolute boon to the foster services. It must be horendusly difficult to safely place a diabetic child with people who intimatly know the disese and how it can effect people both phically and emotionally especilly given the amount of stress that any child going through faster servicea is going through let alone some one whos bgs are sending them scatty. Dont look at your diabetes as a hurdle to jump through to prove you are fit to look after a child in need but a an added extra . A specialist for those who desperatly need that extra special help.
