Hi
I’ve just had a hba1c of 110 mlol also
I’ve been told it’s dangerously high and started on metformin
It’s been a massive shock and I’m desperate for some helpful support xx vivien

Hi Vivien

My HBa1C was 99 when I was diagnosed. Like you I was put on metformin. I was given a blood glucose monitor by my diabetes nurse. I found that was very useful. Over time my morning glucose readings dropped from about 10 to 7. There are many glucose meters you can buy e.g. https://shop.diabetes.ascensia.co.uk/product/contour-plus-blue-meter

I started to cut out foods containing sugar like the breakfast cereal I usually ate. I then cut out high carb food such potatoes, rice, pasta, bread. I began to use a Low Carb High Fat diet after eating this video.

Avoid any food labelled “low fat” as they generally add sugar to make it taste better once they remove the fat.

Good luck on your journey.

My HbA1c was 91 at diagnosis but simply reducing my intake of carbs lowered it to 41 in 6 months/
I was prescribed Metformin and Atorvastatin, but it made me really unwell, and the explosive faecal incontinence was no fun at all. If you take them, make sure you don't go out for a few days until you know how you are going to react.
Some people take them no trouble at all - so there is hope, but oh dear, if one is sensitive then it is quite miserable and time to buy a good carpet cleaner.
