I had my diabetes MOT last week and I got the results today and the doctor wants to see me. It is 66. I thought that was not too bad considering it took in Christmas my birthday and a whole lot of bad days in between. I know my diet is the problem, never have a day where I dont eat chocolates or cakes. So as I say I thought 66 was quite lucky on 4 x 500mg metformin. I have done really well 1 year ago it was 111. I was on glipazide but it was awful last time I got it checked I had got it down to 55. I dont really want to take any more pills.
Hi @gordie123abc
Do you have a meter? Do you test your levels regularly?
If not I would make it a priority to get the Doctor to prescribe one as this is the first step to taking control of your diabetes!!!!
Well, I know this may sound a little harsh, but eating things you know are not helping, then taking meds in the hope they will give you a miracle result will not work. Diabetes is progressive, so you have to wake up to controlling what you eat now, because it will not go away. Sadly there are no options to this. What you put in your mouth will determine your future, not the medication. It looks as if you really know this, and have already managed to achieve some really positive results, so my advice is to take a deep breath, give yourself a pat on the back for what you achieved, then go for it again, but this time, for the rest of your life. It's worth it!
My somewhat harsh words were meant as motivation. For certain if one doesn't look after themselves, progression is on the cards. I too have managed to get back to non diabetic numbers, but am well aware that if one gives in to the chocolate and cake, or any of the other foods that helped to get those numbers up in the first place, then it won't be long before those numbers start to creep up again, and the need for meds will increase. Sadly most people I have come into contact with believe that once on tablets they can carry on with their old ways. It's such a shame people don't get the right messages. It makes me both angry and sadAgree with all of the above apart from the "progressive" part. I've had non diabetic number for over 4 yrs, and I know there are many who are the same. Progression is not a foregone conclusion thankfully
