Hi... Was after advice 8.6 was my latest hba1c, I had thought I was doing well evidently not. At the moment I am on metformin 500 mg qds and glicazide 80mg once a day. Since having babies over two years ago just don't seem to be able to control sugars. Should I be asking to go back on insulin? HELP xxx

Hi,

I think you should be asking for professional help. Something needs to change, more meds, different diet different kind of meds,, insulin?? but really, only your dr or nurse can help with that..sorry! Surprised they have not mentioned this to you. If I were you I would be mentioning it to them. Don't panic...it is not terrible, and will not be the worst result they have seen (probably why they have not commented??) but it is certianly worth being proactive to reduce it.

All the best,
S

Haven't seen the specialist yet re blood results that's tomorrow, just wanted to go in with an action plan of what I wanted doing/ changing! Would say my diet is 95% healthy as I am on the weight watchers plan. Thankyou for your help xx

That explains it!
I too was on WW and thinking I was doing really well. I bought my own meter and started testing. Do you eat unlimited 'free fruit' as they suggest? The fructose in the fruit plays havoc with your sugars even if your weight is coming down. I still attend WW but I've adapted it to suit me as a diabetic. I eat very, very little fruit. For a while I ate none until my BS had stabilisd and lowered slightly. I now have the odd satsuma or half a small banana or an apple about twice a week. Berries are the least high of the fruits.I now make sure I only eat fruit on my swimming days.
I concentrate on carbs rather than points but still attend the meetings for support and a weekly weigh in etc I use the leaflets and recipe ideas but take out the carbs so no pasta, rice, potatoes etc
Are you eating a lot of WW low points meals, bars and crisps ? All these are extremely high in carbs and therefore affect your BS because the temptation is to eat these thinking they are low in points and therefore they must be good for you.
If you are testing regularly you will soon notice your readings drop if you stop eating the fruit. I went overboard on smoothies when I first joined WW. BS eventually stabilised.
Ask away....hope all goes well tomorrow.

Hi... Don't really eat fruit only once a week for breakfast when I work a long day and on that day I have a ww meal for lunch. I tend to eat loads of veg. Am thinking its my body and not my diet xxx

Well saw the nurse specialist and she was pleased with my hba1c as it had come down from last time!!! Has started me on siptoglyptin (prob spelt wrong) and will see me in 2 months .
