Brilliant news. My HbA1c is down but cholesterol is up. What type of fat are you eating?Hi all, I hope you don't mind but I wanted to share my results from last weeks blood tests. I'm very pleased with both and I know you guys will understand how much it means and what a relief it is!
My Hba1c has reduced from 5.4 to 5.1 so very happy with that. My cholesterol has gone up a bit from 5.1 to 5.7 total but my ratios are much better. My good cholesterol has risen significantly and the bad have fallen. Good news considering how much more fat I now eat. Just shows that it's more about the type of fat I guess.
I also feel I'm venturing out a little more too and regaining a bit of confidence. We had a long weekend away over Easter and yesterday I took the girls out for the day with a Grandparents, including lunch. Small steps but at least they're in the right direction.
I hope you is well with you guys.
All the best.
Kaz

Figures from two months agoWell done @Kaz261 ! Glad it is improving your overal life, too.
What are your cholesterol ratios?
When i upped the saturated fat (a lot), my total cholesterol rose a fraction, but the ratios improved wonderfully.
Figures from two months ago
TC 10.1
LDL
HDL 1.4
TRI 3.0
It has risen dramatically since diagnosis. I don't know about significance of ratios.
Yes it was a repeated test which was supposed to be fasting. The results are actually worse than the previous random test. Thanks very much for the advice. Was your test fasting? Or non fasting? The ratios get v mucked up unless it was fasting and are not representative. Likewise with the total score.
Have a look at the you tube lectures by Ken Sikaris - he knows more about cholesterol than your doc. Docs are not cholesterol specialists.
And have a look online for a cholesterol ratio calculator - make sure it uses the right units. That will give you an explanation of the ratios. But remember, the ratios are worthless unless it was a fasting test.
Oh, and Zoe Harcombe has a fantastic knowledge and common sense attitude about cholesterol. Worth reading everything she has written on the subject.
Mainly nuts, seeds, eggs, oily fish, meat (although I still cut a lot of the fat off), butter and olive oil.Brilliant news. My HbA1c is down but cholesterol is up. What type of fat are you eating?

Thanks Brun, I'm chuffed to bits! I thought my Hba1c might be higher as I tend to keep myself a little higher these days (mid 5's to 6's if possible).
I mainly eat a lot of those too, so I'm not sure why there is a problem. I asked my doctor, "So, what's gonna kill me first, the diabetes or the cholesterol?" Her reply: "Well, you could get knocked down by a bus". She is such a comfort. I do know she was trying to make light of things, but still. When I left, I thanked her and said "I'll remember to look out for that bus then!" Absolutely true. Maybe I should try someone elseMainly nuts, seeds, eggs, oily fish, meat (although I still cut a lot of the fat off), butter and olive oil.
I don't do very low carb as it doesn't suit me entirely.
Great news about your Hba1c. I've read on here that cholesterol can sometimes take a while to settle. Although I'm no expert!
Thanks Nosher, means a lot.Hi Kaz, that's really good news and brilliant that you're getting out and about more, getting your life back.
Well done on getting your hba1c and good cholesterol levels down.
Keep up the good work.
Best wishes. Hope everything's ok (ish) with you.
Lol! There are certain times that you don't need your GP to have a sense of humour! I wish I could give you some useful advise, but it's something I know very little about I'm afraid. My Endo did say that diet alone can only affect cholesterol by around 15%. Beyond that exercise and/or medication is required for most.I mainly eat a lot of those too, so I'm not sure why there is a problem. Yes, I read that only 15 per cent is accounted for by diet, so the body makes the rest. I do quite a bit of walking and joined the gym but not sure it's having much of an effect. I also take statins but I do have doubts about them. Thanks for your reply.Lol! There are certain times that you don't need your GP to have a sense of humour! I have mixed thoughts about statins. Do you take them? Are you able to exercise?
