HbA1c and the Insulin Fairies

There are several factors than can affect an HBA1c result.
Low levels of B12.
Anemia.
Ethnicity.
I even read that your levels of Vitamins C and E will affect the result. Considering the amount of Vitamin C i get from my diet, one wonders if that lowers it :?: This is something I don't understand as I thought you excreted unnecessary Vitamin C. :?:

I will carry on testing.

You're right; I think all these things are the sort of things which effect the glycation rate in post above. Age is another!

I agree with everyone (today  )

All I originally wanted to do was to point out the importance of testing post your main meal.

Totally agree that there is a difference between a mathematical model and physical results. I have a predicted HbA1c calc on my spreadsheet. I do the 7 tests / day (pre and +2hr and a fasting) that were done in the studies they based hBA1c on. It will be interesting to see if using the same methodology will get anywhere near what my next physical HbA1c will be but I need to run about another month before I can get the test done. At the moment the calcs are predicting 5.4% from a 9.9% start back in December. Like you Grazer I thinks that's likely to be optimistic. Saying that my son who does the same thing reckons to get within a few 10ths of his actual physical. I'll post the results along with my true HbA1c when I get it done then we can all no doubt have a laugh!

Interesting about the B12 Catherine. I take a B12 supplement because I thought it might be why I was feeling tired and losing concentration and concentration is very key to my job. Since I've been taking it I'm certainly beginning to feel better concentration wise at least but of course other factors like the change in diet and far lower BG's may well be the reason. I realise to get B12 into me orally I do need to take it at a high dose and do.

You can have as many cherries as you want Phoenix  . I'll enjoy reading your links later as some pre bedtime reading.

How does age affect it please Grazer?
Tests have shown that with age, HbA1C rates increase. One study showed that over 60, figures increased by 0.1% per annum. This applied equally to non diabetics. So at age 70, you'd HbA1C could be one whole point higher (say 6.5 rather than5.5) compared to age 60. Suggestion was that this could be achieved with
Same average BG. In other words, Glycation rate was thus changing.
