The A1c is a long term average. Sometimes the initial insulin response is defective, which lets the glucose spike up, which leads to overcorrection when the body finally manages to respond. Hopefully, by changing the diet or by exercising more, you could come to rely on a lower dose the medication to keep the A1c down.
