Thanks.

I started at 129 in January, the Dr put me on Metformin and in February I had pushed it to 67 with diet, exercise and medication. In May I had achieved 38 and the Dr reduced my Metformin to 1 a day. By July I couldn't keep my finger prick level above 5.0 so contacted the Dr and she tuck me of Metformin altogether. In Sept my HbA1c was 40 with no meds so just in the safe zone. I still keep my carbs to a minimum and exercise as much as I can, ideally, I would like it to be lower.

Give it time.

Mine was 67 which is still high. I have been struggling with keeping blood sugars down and was at 84, got down to 50, now up again! It is never easy even if you do watch your carbs and exercise. I also have pancreatic insufficiency so take enzymes for that too. Might be a type 3 but not sure, just complicated! Good luck

I was diagnosed type 2 in 2011 and joined this forum way back then. Got things under control and carried on with life. In 2019 my hba1c was 49. It increased to 77 at end of 2020 after all the comfort eating during covid and lockdown. My bloods haven't been tested now for almost 2 years so I contacted Dr last week and arranged for hba1c to be done again. During the last 2 years I know I've been eating like a non diabetic so it's no surprise that my hba1c result is 111. I have an appointment with diabetic nurse on Thursday to discuss my results and I'm terrified she will insist I start using insulin. I know I've managed to get it back under control numerous times in the past but now I worry that because I've been diabetic for so long things might be different. I've been low carbing for the past few days now and keeping my fingers crossed. I have a test kit and I'm now testing regularly but can't get it in single figures yet. I've come back to the forum again for motivation, inspiration and advice. Feeling a bit scared to be honest.

You get to consent, or not, to medication. Different nurses will advise (not enforce) different things at the same levels so it depends on personalities and their awareness of all the options that work. Some in the forum started at your levels and had no insulin, some even no medication. But you do have to take action of some sort to bring it down of course.

Although they haven’t got to single figures yet I assume the numbers are coming down from pre low carbing days? Discuss the actions you’ve taken and the results you’re seeing. Ask for restest in 3 months (as per nice guidelines) until you’re stable.

You may decide to start with a more gentle medication, or not. Remember statins raise blood glucose, sometimes have side effects and aren’t as clear cut in science as some believe, especially if it’s only being prescribed “just because“ you’re diabetic rather than a problem with your levels. And low carb often resolves undesirable levels and ratios anyway (total is totally useless at predicting anything, you need a full panel including trigs at the very least. Particle size is needed really too). My choice was to wait and see how they went with diet change.

My first A1c was 51 my GP at that time dismissed it as not in the diabetic range even though it was my second A1c was 64 again dismissed by my then GP then changed GP practice and was immediately diagnosed with diabetes then put on metformin and with diet got my blood sugars down to normal range and A1c in n the 30's now over last few months since hospitalized with covid A1c back up to 48 and rising so may be back on medication soon.

If I ever had to go on Insulin it would not frighten me as it is just one weapon in the arsenal of weapons available to us to fight the enemy that is diabetes and does not in the case of type 2 necessarily have to be for ever.

Diagnosed with hba1c 48 which increased to 54 within 5 months after taking statins and reduced to 43 6 months after stopping statins due to other side effects. Hba1c has remained between 35 and 37 for the last 7 years
