Just wondering if anyone has ever monitored their bloods found the to be high 8-11 at various testing times only to find that the HbA1c result is that they are not diabetic. Clutching at straws here!

Once you have been diagnosed with Diabetes there is no going back, I'm afraid. Those people who work really hard to attain non Diabetic numbers and are even able to tolerate more carbs than they could on diagnosis are still Diabetic. What we must aim for is better management to lower the risk factors of complications and to live with less stress and just enjoy a healthier lifestyle.

I haven't actually been diagnosed yet, bought my own meter and have been testing for the last week, majority of the numbers are all in the red but have upped water, changed my diet (Still about 100 -120g Carbs) and trying for a minimum of 10k steps, managed 12.5k a few times. Just wondered if the readings I have been getting could be just a blip and if I shed some weight (at least 3 stone) will it go back to normal. Or will I never be able to eat a slice of cake again!

I am angry with myself because I have no-one to blame but myself!

It would be best for you to see your GP with a view to having a HbA1c test. This will (after a second test to confirm) tell you one way or the other whether you have something to worry about. It is a simple blood draw and the results are back usually within about 48 hours.

Changing your lifestyle to a healthier state is always a good idea.

As to testing, if you are testing at random times it will tell you little. Honestly, see your GP.

Sorry should have said, I am off tomorrow for the HbA1c test. I haven't been testing at random times, they have been after sleep, before breakfast, before dinner, 2 hours after dinner and before sleep. I have added notes e.g., walk straight after dinner etc. Also did an experiment last night and had a baby bel before sleep, since testing for the first time last week my after sleep readings were 11.1, 11.2, 9.6,9.8,10.1,9.5,9.4 and 8 today. The majority have all been taken around the 6am mark on work days and last nights test was to see if eating a little protein before sleep would help the dawn phenomenon. I also did a glucose test with a bottle of lucosade (although someone said the lucosade does not have enough glucose in it now) Test prior to glucose taken at 8:45am was 9 and then it took almost 4 hours to fall to 6.3. Whilst testing I just stayed in bed not moving around, after two hours it was 13.9 but then after moving around showering etc it fell to 6.3.

It is highly unlikely!

A non-diabetic HbA1c is 41 (5.9% in old measurements) or under. 41 is the same as an average BG reading on your meter of 6.8.

The test will tell all. I won't comment on your readings simply because we cannot diagnose you, only a Health Care Professional can diagnose. You are aware of the risks of a poor dietary regime and have addressed this accordingly, it will have done you no harm and has probably done you a lot of good. It is now down to the test results. I would advise that if the results show negative value for Diabetes that you carry on with your healthier diet/excercise regime. If, however, the results show you to be in Pre Diabetic or Type 2 Diabetic ranges then you are in the right place to up your game and gain better management. Fingers crossed for you.
