Hoping you guys can help with two generic questions.

What is the HbA1C cut of level before you should start to take mediciation? I've been 52, 55, 48 and 52 over the past 3 years but my GP hasn't started me on any mediciation.

How often should a person's HbA1C levels be checked? Is it onc a year or every 3 months or 6 months?

At those levels you can bring it down to normal levels on diet and exercise alone, but if you find that difficult you could discuss something like metformin with your GP. But remember that drugs don't provide you with an excuse to let up - you have to help them!

When newly diagnosed HbA1c is done quarterly at first, then less frequently. An annual check is normal I think, at least while you remain with diabetic levels.

The NICE guidelines say it should be every 3 months initially, then 6 months. Once the levels are stabilised within target, it can be annually.

Thanks Sanguie

Over the past 2.5 years i haven't really taken care of myself. However in the last month i have and i have lost weight. My bg levels in the morning are now 6.5. before they were usually 7.5

I think 59 is the level at which drugs are introduced.
