Hba1c logic

Hi all. I know hba1c is a 3 month/12 week average, but does anyone know how the average value is worked out? For example if my blood was around 33 for the first 6 weeks but then jumped to around 43 for the last 6 weeks would that then make my “average” 38 as it’s between those 2 figures? Or does the result reflect the level you have been at more often than any other, so the more common BS level within that 3 month period is given in this instance. (I also know the latter weeks may hold more weight towards the result but this is just for arguments sake). I’m sorry if this is a stupid question, I’m very new to all this and just trying to make sure I interpret the result correctly that’s all. Reason I ask is because I made some changes about half way through the last 3 months, I quit nicotine and CBD oil so was wondering if that was beneficial or detrimental and if my result could indicate that.
