Hba1c too good for a pump?

Hi
I've been diagnosed 7 yrs and on MDI. I did a DAFNE course 3 yrs ago and test about 8 times a day, injecting when necessary. Over the past year I've tried to tighten up my control. I average 8 injections a day. My DSN suggested I think about a pump. I wasn't keen until I researched it but now really believe it could make a big difference to my life. However my specialist GP feels my Hba1c would preclude me from funding. My last result was 7.6. I pointed out that I achieved this by rigorous testing and injecting (I had been quite proud of myself) she said I'm too obsessive and should test less and only inject a corrective dose at mealtimes. She reluctantly agreed to refer me to my hospital clinic to see if they will consider me for a pump but now I'm wondering how I convince them if they feel the same as her.
If I get turned down for funding can I appeal? Should I stop testing/injecting so much and let my Hba1c go up?
Feeling very deflated so any advice or comment would be welcome

Hi mrob49,
Having an HbA1c above 8 isn't the only criteria for getting a pump. Have a look on inputs website, it will give you all the ins and outs of who is eligible and ways you can access one. Having a fear of hypos and having a lot of hypos is another way. It does depend unfortunately where you live as getting a pump is sometimes a bit of a postcode lottery. I definitely wouldn't stop testing as much as you are that is often one of the conditions the consultants lay down is that you are doing everything possible to control your bg as you can meaning multiple tests and injections. Many people test more than 10 times a day on here. Another condition some consultants have before getting a pump is doing a carb counting course like dafne or something similar, have you been on one?
