Hello Everyone,
First of all, I would like to say thank you to everyone in this forum, I was diagnosed last July with Prediabetes/borderline diabetes with an HBA1c score of 50 - and immediately found this forum, thank goodness I did.
I lost 3.5 stone (still some way to go, as a Size 16) but regular exercise and went LCHF and have managed to stick to that for the last year (with a little weekend treat, every couple of months). Lost 3 stone in the first 6 months, not too much more since then, only a half stone in the last few months, but slow and steady wins the race, and I feel much better.
Doctor prescribed Metformin, I take 1000mg per day, in the evening, and have been very strict since, do regular blood tests etc.
I recently went for another HBA1c (long story short, due to having a very high initial reading, doctor was happy to see me try and turn it around by losing weight and exercise, metformin to help, gave me a few extra months before making me do the blood test).
I just got my results - and its now 25, apart from being a huge drop, so am pleased, has me worried as its such a massive drop, is this something to worry about?
I don't think I have read much about scores in the 20's, please tell me all is fine!
Thanks again,
Georgina

Blimey, what a turnaround. Well done, are you still on the Metformin? Might be time to reduce it. You are non diabetic.

Hello Dawnmc, thank you for replying!
I asked the receptionist at the doctors surgery 3 times, she said 25 at least 3 times, I kept asking her if she was sure! I am popping by after work to see for myself, just in case.
It does seem very low, am now concerned about that, I was hoping for 40 -42, if I am being honest, to be at the bottom end of prediabetes, high end of normal would have been nice enough.
I always thought the 50 could have been down to a very bad time I was having with my teeth (abcesses etc) and had a couple of months of popping ibuprofen like smarties, but the doctor says theres no such thing as a false positive HBA1c.
Oh dear, we are never happy, too high, too low!
Thanks

Incredible job... well done!
Nothing to worry about.. you have just made a huge improvement to your health.
Keep up the LCHF and you should be fine.

Well below 42 is supposed to be non diabetic but does not say how low. Even for a non diabetic 25 does sound very low though

I did cry! If someone can tell me that 25 is OK, then I will feel a lot better!
My last one was 27 took 10 months to get there from 70 at diagnosis. You're fine stop worrying and give yourself a pat on the back (or even better a large steak! ...or whatever your fave low carb meal is)

Thank you all, I feel much better now, although may have to have a conversation with the doctor about Metformin!
Thanks
