A question if I may. . .
My GP told me about 6 months ago that I was pre-diabetic. Three months ago my HBA1C was 6.1 After lots of research, I decided to do something about it so have been following the LC/HF was of eating seriously for 3 months. Today, my HBA1C was 5.6 - does that mean I am no longer pre-diabetic? I intend to eat this way for the rest of my life.

Well done and congratulations!

An HbA1c below 6% is in the normal range. (6% to 6.4% is pre-diabetes)

If you keep this up hopefully you won't cross the threshold into full blown diabetes.

@bluetit is spot on. That said, you MUST keep that level down to current levels, so don't let those figures escape you and that bullet will have passed you by. Well done but keep the guard up

It means that your doctor will not diagnose you as such since he goes by the numbers and probably hasn't asked you about your diet. If you went back to your old ways your numbers would almost certainly go up again so you are only not pre diabetic (by the numbers) if you maintain control.

Congratulations on getting your bg levels down. Well done.

Many thanks! I am determined and still feeling amazed at what a change in eating habits can achieve!

I will do my utmost to maintain control having got this far. I have yet to speak to my GP - we shall see!
