Same age as me.
Ignored the advice for too long, refused to take metformin as I was terrified of the very high incidence of the nausea, diarrhoea and headaches side effects.
After being so unwell I ended up close to ketoacidosis.
Wake up call that pushed me into action.
Now started metformin. Just upped to two a day from one.
Massive diet change, having to test is a real pain. But I guess death is probably worse. Or becoming so ill with Diabetic health issues that I can’t look after and enjoy my grandchildren. ( 16 in total but 9 of them are 6 and under. )
My mum was diagnosed earlier than this, but she ended up on so many different tablets for several things. I’m only going to take one new medication at a time.
Meanwhile I haven’t missed chocolate or biscuits at all.
I yearn for bread though. You can keep your cakes and chocolate. I usually give these up for Lent but that’s only six weeks.
I am so looking forward to eating wholemeal seeded bread. Haven’t eaten white bread for over 20 years
Some people are ok with bread, but sadly I’m not one of them.
